It’s taken only one week for this administration to reveal just how toxic and feckless it is.

Thank you for this very sobering update. Other than financial support, what actions can we take to fight these efforts? It feels like we are all standing here looking into the headlights and hearing the roar of an oncoming train yet we can't seem to get out of the way. Please know that I I am not criticizing and efforts to inform us of these changes, such as your writing, are key. But what else can we do?

*Bravo Jeremy* for staying on top of these destructive and profoundly harmful actions of DJT. *Very informative*.

I am glad to have been a paid subscriber for a while now.

Also, just called our Senators Markey and Warren to ask that they stand up vocally against the confirmation of Jay Battacharya as NIH director. Battacharya's appointment seeks to destroy the NIH as the premier research entity on the planet.

We need to protect research, vaccines, our healthcare communication system integrity and fair and equal access to healthcare and health information for our kids, teens, young adults in society. These changes are very sudden and confusing to them. There’s no benefit to the next generation for these sudden, illogical, impractical changes to research and science. We need leadership to save the integrity of the research, science and health system for the youth of our country etc. the youth are very concerned by these sudden shocking changes ~

Unimaginable but there it is. Thank you for all of the information and your strength to keep telling it like it unfortunately is.

Terrifying--thank you for reporting this.

So grateful to have found your reports. The actions, as well as their implications, are profoundly disturbing. Those of us in the sciences recognize this, but can you or anyone you might recommend give us pointers on how to communicate this to the general public?

I live in a rural red state, and I think about the letters I often sent to our county health advisory committee during the height of covid. With the communication strictures being applied, we will need to communicate within our own communities.

Thank you so much for your comprehensive explanations of what all of this means in a practical sense. Your insights are invaluable and I am so very grateful. As a cancer patient who has been on NIH developed clinical trials, though not a present (still in treatment but on another drug), this is all very personal to me. I am going to look into whether cancer patients would have any kind of standing and, if so, I'm going to pursue that. My life may literally depend on this.

I'm hopping back in to make the perhaps obvious point that with bird flu, the likelihood of crossover from birds to humans is higher in rural areas. It's also harder to get good information out, and there is more resistance to good science. It would be helpful to know about other rural counties that developed successful outreach during covid.

Those of us who work and advocate in Gateway cities have known this would happen with a Trump administration. This is nothing to do with partisanship. Losing our grants like CDGB (Community Development Block Grants) means we can’t build healthy, safe accessible homes and shelters. It won’t be just grants just directly to research. It will mean more environmental health threats like pollution of air and water with unrestricted development and mining. And all agency’s that support legal justice and/or clean up and recovery will and already are losing funding. Don’t know how we can possibly “lawyer our way” out of this.

Thanks so much for sharing these updates. Can you repost the link to the executive order in the first paragraph? The link goes to a Harvard site behind a paywall.

The one thing we all need to recognize with this fascist oligarchy administration is they want government to fail. You need to really understand that is not exaggerated. It’s fact . Government to these billionaires and others impedes them from making personal wealth and acquiring power. It really is that simple. It’s why they’re anti-science and anti-fact.. They despise reasonable regulations. They don’t wanna pay their share of taxes. They want to reduce the public’s trust in government’s beneficial programs so they will render them ineffective. They are not interested in the public good. Then you go from there for strategy.
