Update: I changed the headline here because I’m now hearing that ACIP may not be revoting on the April votes, as per the original headline on this post.
The APhA announced that they will no longer follow ACIP guidelines--not sure exactly who they are, but this included in a post from a former HHS official, Jeff Nesbit--on the Contrarian--https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/apha-withholds-endorsement-of-acip-adult-immunization-schedule-302476857.html
When the NYT announced the new conflict ridden, highly biased, expertise deficient, non transparent, not vetted ACIP, they said it would concern "pro-vaccine" advocates. Come on!
Thanks for this post and all of your posts. Trying not to catastrophize, but this does feel worst case scenario.
My husband works for one of the major pharmaceutical companies. It is so stressful wondering what is going on and what job cuts may happen because of this lunacy. After 22 years in the military, this was supposed to be our happy ending. My consolation is he’s out of the military and not beholden to this clown show. At least our children are fully vaccinated, as are we.
Thank you, Dr. Faust. This is essential reporting. The danger here is not abstract. It is immediate and structural. Removing experienced, evidence-based experts from ACIP and replacing them with ideologues threatens not only public trust but also vaccine access and coverage. This could lead directly to more illness, more hospitalizations, and preventable deaths. We are witnessing the dismantling of public health infrastructure in real time, and the consequences will be measured in lives.
Something that is becoming increasingly obvious is that this administration has exposed multiple weak points in our Constitution, laws & legal processes. In this instance, it is a basic flaw that allows a non- physician, non scientist to make a final decision that can overrule experts, thus endangering public health. When this regime is gone & we have a renewed opportunity to restore safeguards, we need to NOT go back to old processes. We need to build processes that keeps decision making in the hands of non political experts.
More than the votes on the RSV, I'm worried about the VFC votes for HPV, influenza, covid if they do indeed go forward with them. Those could directly deny access to kids.
I hate to be too cynical but perhaps Senator Cassidy made a decision to roll with Trump on the appointment but publicly question RFK Jr. in order to later say he was misled by him. Just wondering…

This is all very troubling!

Senator Bill Cassidy deluded himself that his 'conversations' with Kennedy reached him and made a difference.
Consequently, Senator Cassidy voted to go along to get along and confirm Kennedy's appointment.
How shocking to nobody else that Kennedy remains Kennedy.
