Every Tuesday evening, I have the joy of leading rehearsals of The Longwood Chorus, a wonderful ensemble of 80+ members of Boston’s vibrant medical, health, and science community.
I was a software engineer for 30 years and have played clarinet in a community orchestra for all that time and more. The group paused for a year during COVID. I still consider rehearsals to be a COVID risk, but it's one I'm willing to take because playing in the group adds so much to my life.
I would like to see more COVID content, and also more of your clinical anecdotes, in the newsletter. The current-events reporting is important, but I miss what you used to write.
Sounds Good choir in the Chicago area has a number of choirs for older adults, including a couple of choirs for people with early dementia. They are involved with a study at Northwestern regarding music & cognitive health. If you are in the Chicago area and 55+, check it out! (they don't card - we've had some younger singers too.)
I wish I lived close enough to sing with you. I have sung in many community and church choirs through the years, including the California Philharmonic Chorale at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Singing in my current church choir has an added benefit of helping my asthma-COPD. Hope you have/had a great concert and I'll be listening via streaming (thanks!).
Benjamin Britten💜💜 We did some of his songs in my college choir (Umass) so good and so different!
Addicted to the classic rock sounds from the 60s and 70s, I've played guitar and been the lead vocalist in a number of bands over the years.
I’m sad to have missed this concert! I began cello lessons at age 10, and still try to play.
I retired last year after 30+ years and two careers (medical laboratory and PTA) in healthcare.
Wait! Wait! Oh my goodness .. you’re the conductor?? Longwood Orchestra BLEW my mind when I discovered them/ *you* in Boston as a med student.
Like, oh casually all of these musicians are also my hero-worshipped Boston docs.
AND
SO SO strong !!!
What a great memory.
Have a terrific concert!🎵
