Who should not take weight loss drugs? As a 55 year old woman who is carrying the menopause middle. I exercise, eat healthy and my BP is controlled by low dose med and I am also on cholesterol meds due to hereditary cholesterol issues. I feel frustrated as my Dr says it would be great if I could lose some weight AND does not recommend the compounded versions of the weight loss drugs. Meanwhile everyone middle aged woman I know is on them and thin! This is hard and I would greatly appreciate some insight to the wonder drugs.
Well, giving specific medical advice in this forum is not really something I can do. I agree that the compounded versions are problematic--some are probably fine but there's got to be some quality control issue around some of these purveyors and I'm rather confused on how the oversight/quality control on that is even happening, to be honest.
If you have borderline diabetes, that would be another reason to take them. But even if you do not, there are people with body mass indexes in the low-to-mid 30s that would likely benefit, especially if you have hypertension and high cholesterol.
If there's some reason your doctor is not wanting to prescribe, I would certainly want to know why that is.
Thank you and I certainly do not expect personal medical advice. I appreciate this as it seems like everyone I know is on a version of these weight loss/ diabetic medications. I will certainly ask my doctor. Thank you for all of your hard work and research!
This was a great interview that really brought to light the impact that these drugs can have on people. You have a great way of explaining things so that people who aren’t in the medical field can easily understand it. I do have a question about tirzepatide. Are there any studies showing decreases in cardiovascular events and other improved outcomes as well? A colleague of mine who runs a weight management clinic prefers to use that over semaglutide because of better weight loss. Thanks again for another informative piece!
Loved the interview!
Thank you!
