The Supreme Court’s decision will have profound consequences for U.S. foreign policy and global health. Restoring USAID funding isn’t just about diplomacy—it’s about saving lives. But given this Court’s track record, their ‘pro-life’ stance seems to stop at the womb. We’ll see if they prove otherwise.

The title of the NYT’s article says it all. Five of the nine justices on the Supreme Court, as of early 2025, were executive branch lawyers in the Reagan and George W. Bush administrations, whose legal teams focused on ways to expand presidential power.

Thanks for keeping us updated on all of these topics. I’m wondering if it’s too soon to impeach RFK Jr?

On bird flu fiasco...so frustrating and scary. And perfect example of how inter-department exchanges are so important. And why this administration's oligarchy broad destruction is so effective in destroying beneficial programs and needs quickly. So many virus's that start in animals before there is transmission to humans (if ever). My husband worked for US Fish and Wildlife in bird refuges. In MA we are seeing large populations of birds dropping dead just this winter of Bird Flu. And the layoffs and budget cuts have been devastating this week there. In the national bird refuge offices (which tend to be much smaller offices) they pay for their monthly heating bills for gas and oil through Fed charge cards. Larger offices have contracts with utility companies. This week Trump put a $1.00 limit on those charge cards.

On Medicaid, we are seeing in our city of Holyoke where there is much need, the impact of Medicaid cuts already right down to our Commission on Disabilities. One our members is a former transit authority who specializes in making public transit more accessible. So people who are disabled, who don't own cars, etc. can get to their health services (like acquiring vaccines). Medicaid funded a big part of transportation (this is true nationally). Now they are holding off on lots of funding of programs including ours.
