Experts are sounding the alarm over bird flu. The current H5N! outbreak began in March 2024 with the detection in dairy cows. Since then, there have been 70 human cases in the US, according to CDC’s tracker. Most of the cases have been mild and among farm workers, and there has been no confirmed human-to-human transmission. However, a handful of concerning cases have been reported, including the first severe case and US death (reported in Louisiana) and a new strain of the virus in a Nevada dairy worker.
Some have characterized the Biden administration’s response as “anemic,” but warn that the Trump administration’s resistance to public health measures could make things much, much worse.
Join us me an Instagram live conversation with infectious diseases expert Dr. Nahid Bhadelia. Dr. Bhadelia is the founding director of the Center on Emerging Infectious Diseases at Boston University and recently served in the Biden administration in the White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and and Response Policy.

Followed instructions. Didn’t connect to livestream. Very disappointing.
How exactly would bird flu be transmitted in the general population with no farm animal or direct bird exposure?
