Is a two-dose flu vaccine strategy more effective than the high-dose vaccine approved for age > 65? Also, note that the high-dose vaccine is approved for younger transplant patients, but not other immune compromised people (which makes no sense).
As some one who IS (mildly) immunocompromised, due to medication, I really want better flu shot options. I would happily participate in this research design- no one would get less than their current protection!
I have a good understanding of the immunology of being vaccinated.
Conventional wisdom (if I may) is there is not a "lasting immunity" post administration of the "flu shot", similarly when given a CoVid "booster".
1) I don't believe subsequent doses of either a "flu-shot" or CoVid vaccine have a "boosting" response.
Each subsequent dose in essence results in the reproduction of new antibodies...yes/no?
2) The body does retain some memory of previous exposures, granted that recall fades over time. I digress, however early into the pandemic there was an outbreak of SAR II in a convent/retirement community in New Jersey (stand corrected in specifics. The article referenced elderly nuns ~ 100 yr-old (stuff old- Birdies) that recovered from their infections.
Genetics certainly was in play, devine intervention 🤔 or my thought those lovely had been exposures over their lifetimes numerous variations of coronaviruses.
The mystery of their recovery remains yet could there not been some "immunological memory"?
3) Dr Faust can you hasten my search to an early post where there was a discussion as to waining immunity & the time of a "booster" dose of CoVid vaccination?
Thank you for comments, corrections & collaboration (couldn't resist the alliteration, albeit the latter may not fit) JJF
I am not surprised the "study" of hastening the intoxicated patient from the ER post IV bolus was not successful. Ethanol is metabolized via 1st order (straight line kinetics) as such only the time period between the last drink will show decreasing BAC. Maybe the "rich" can trial dialysis & then drive themselves home OMG please tell me that experiment has not be conducted.
