Voices: Dr. Harlan Krumholz on Long Covid research.
Recently, my friend and mentor Dr. Harlan Krumholz—the director of Yale’s Center for Research Outcomes & Evaluation—and I chatted about Long Covid research.
Along with Dr. Akiko Iwasaki, Harlan is one of the lead investigators of a large decentralized clinical trial assessing Paxlovid as a therapy for patients diagnosed and suffering with Long Covid. This research aims to answer important questions, and as you’ll hear, places the volunteers participating in the study at the center of the story, as partners with the scientists.
Our conversation covered a lot of ground on this topic, that I know you’ll find fascinating and I want to share it with you. (And as always, MedPage Today’s video editor Emily Hutto helped us fit a lot of great information into under 9 minutes).
To watch for free (and get the transcript), follow this link to MedPage Today. In my view, you won’t find anyone who combines compassion for patients with rigorous research better than Harlan. On behalf of all of us who care about this issue, Harlan and his collaborators are in search of therapies for Long Covid. But, we simply do not yet know what the effects may be. That’s why high-quality research is so essential. Hopefully, we’ll get news in 2024. If and when there is news to share, I’ll be sure to highlight it for you here.
Here again is that link.
And if you have questions for Harlan, please add them in the comments section here on Inside Medicine.
