Hi everyone! As most of you know, Inside Medicine usually comes out three times per week or so. However, since the Trump administration started attacking public health and the biomedical research infrastructure, I’ve been writing every day or more. Your support has made this possible. In particular, when you click the Share button and spread this work in your networks, you are bringing us new readers, which in turn brings more crucial voices from within the various agencies we’ve been following to my inbox. In short, your “shares” are creating new relationships that are informing this work. Of course, new subscribers (especially those who can upgrade) are making this sustainable. Thank you!
I’m taking a breather this weekend—something many of you encouraged me to do. (I truly appreciate your care and interest in my wellbeing!)
So, I thought I’d share a couple of external media appearances I’ve made in the past week or so that I hadn’t yet posted here. I really enjoyed these conversations. Good interviewers bring out ideas that I hadn’t fully considered or articulated, and in both of these segments, that’s exactly what happened…
The House of Pod, with Dr. Kaveh Hoda, featuring Prop (and me).
Let’s start with The House of Pod, hosted by my good friend Dr. Kaveh Hoda. The House of Pod is described as a “humor-adjacent medical podcast hosted by a GI doc and friends. Putting the ‘fun’ back in mfunedicine.” (I love this guy. We met on the internet and have become close friends. Our families even hang out when we visit the SF Bay Area. And last time Kaveh and I got together, the dim sum we got in SF was on point. But we digress!)
Kaveh’s podcast covers important topics happening in health and medicine, and he hosts great conversations with various experts. I’ve been on the show before, but this may be my favorite appearance because Kaveh was joined by rapper and author Prop, whose own popular podcast Hood Politics with Prop is also great listening. The three of us had great chemistry (and it was really nice that Prop cross-posted the show to his podcast as well). I have a feeling we’ll reunite at some point. Here’s a link to the show:
Live with Katie Couric. Instagram Q&A.
Early in the Covid-19 pandemic, Katie Couric interviewed me on a few occasions for her very active Instagram account and newsletter. Some of the viewers of those interviews have become some of my most cherished supporters, giving me encouragement when times are tough! (You can tell a lot about a person by how their followers behave, and Katie’s audience is tremendously thoughtful, caring, and genuinely curious about the world. I appreciate them, I appreciate Katie, and I appreciate her superb team. I am just in an appreciating kind of mood here!)
It had been a while since Katie and I caught up. Below is an interview we did last week on Instagram. Obviously with the news cycle being what it is, some of the information may have since changed a bit, but it still has a lot of good stuff. Check it out!
That’s all for now. Thanks again for being here! —Jeremy
