Yesterday, WBUR published a generous profile of Inside Medicine, capturing what I’ve been trying to do here since January 20th—which is to cut through the noise, hold our elected officials accountable, and give voice to those otherwise unable to speak out from within HHS agencies like the CDC, FDA, NIH, IHS, and others. I’m grateful to Elisabeth Harrison for writing this piece. Her questions made me think about my goals and hopes for this very special space that we share.
In fact, I want to share the article with you because, in reality, the piece is actually about you, the Inside Medicine readers. That’s literally true because some of you have given me ideas and scoops that have filled these pages with essential information that has helped shape my understanding of this important moment in our nation’s history. That, in turn, has helped inform the millions of readers who have stopped by since January 20th. But also, it’s because every time I open up a blank newsletter and start typing, I am thinking (and, okay, sometimes guessing) about what I believe you’ll want to know, and what I think you need to know. In other words, my sense of who you are is what drives what appears in this newsletter week in and week out.
Now, I do promise to try to start mixing in some of the content that readers who were here from 2021-2024 normally expect—that is, insights and analysis on the latest medical research and other health news outside of the Beltway and Atlanta. But, as the WBUR article reminded me, there’s still a lot to document in these first months of the new administration in Washington. So, with your help, we can do both of these things well in the coming months.
Speaking of that…please keep sending me your ideas and your tips. They are the fuel that powers this little engine. So, as always, if you have information about any of the unfolding stories we are following, please email me or find me on Signal at InsideMedicine.88.
Thank you for reading!
Thank you for keeping us informed. Glad you are being publicly recognized. I cannot express how much I appreciate and how vital it is to all of us to have an excellent reliable source of information. I truly feel we are doomed without it.
SO thankful for your work over the years! I'm pretty sure you literally saved my life and my family's lives multiple times during COVID. And, still you are helping us navigate and sort through the crazy on a daily basis. THANK YOU!!!!!
