Preview: Live from Aspen with Dr. Collins and Dr. Birx.
Here's what's coming this week on Inside Medicine.
Hi everyone! I’m back from Aspen Ideas Health, where I participated in a fascinating, useful, and at times provocative session entitled “Can We Put the Pandemic Behind Us?” with my colleague Dr. Leana Wen. Our conversation/debate was moderated by STAT News’ Senior Health Reporter, the great Helen Branswell. You can stream that here anytime for free.
Promo stuff, but good stuff! (For Premium Subscribers)...
As promised, I had the opportunity to sit down for a private Q&A with scientific advisor to President Biden, former director of the National Institutes of Health, and lead scientist for the Human Genome Project, Dr. Francis Collins. An edited version of that interview will appear for free this week on MedPage Today. The complete and unedited 26-minute interview and transcript will be available to Inside Medicine Premium Subscribers starting this evening. The audio and transcript will be housed on the Inside Medicine newsletter website on Bulletin.com. The video will be stream in our members-only Facebook group, which you get access to when you upgrade. We covered a ton of terrain, from his work in the Biden White House, to his book on science and religion co-existing (The Language of God, Simon & Schuster), to his unexpected friendship with the late Christopher Hitchens. I loved this conversation and hope you will too.

Later in the week, my 50-minute interview with former White House Coronavirus Taskforce Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx will go live. The shorter and edited version will also be free on MedPage Today, while the complete unedited interview and transcript will stream live on Inside Medicine for Premium Subscribers (audio and transcript on Bulletin, video on the subscribers-only Facebook group). Dr. Birx is nothing like I thought. Her book (Silent Invasion, HarperCollins) contains bombshell after bombshell, and she has an incredible command of the data. She's a major force with a long track record. But her time in the Trump White House was not an easy one. You won’t want to miss this one either. Here's that subscribe link, which includes a free trial period.

I was so glad to be able to ask both Dr. Birx and Dr. Collins detailed probing questions, including some from our Premium subscribers.
For everyone else, there’s much more to come! I’ll be back tomorrow with a regular (and important) Inside Medicine covering some breaking news about the future of abortion care in the United States in the wake of last week’s Supreme Court ruling.
Stay safe!
Jeremy
