Invitation: Live Q&A on the latest in Long Covid research with Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly.
Today, Tuesday, January 17th, 1pm ET.
Today, Tuesday January 17th at 1pm ET, I’ll be hosting a live Q&A conversation with Long Covid researcher Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly.
To join us live, follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/medpage/ and log in at 1pm. (We’ll be recording the conversation and posting it later for those who are interested but can’t attend.)
We’ll be catching up on the latest developments in Long COVID research and discussing both the challenges and the progress being made. I know there will be a lot of interest here! I’ve got questions and I know you do too…
Some topics I’ll be asking about:
How many different diseases is Long Covid?
What is the current thinking on what causes it?
At the moment, what are the most promising treatment candidates?
What are some big studies we are watching for this year? What do we hope to learn from them?
Is Covid “special” among respiratory viruses in terms of its ability to cause medium and long-term symptoms? Or has Covid just woken us up to the fact that many viruses cause problems that we previously did not fully appreciate?
How do you conduct Long Covid research when not all researchers, clinicians, and patients agree on the definition?
What is the risk of Long Covid in 2024 compared to 2020 (and even 2021-2023)? We’ll discuss prevalence, severity, and duration.
How do you raise awareness about this condition without risking alarmism which can cause some people to tune it all out?
What are your questions for Dr. Al-Aly? Please leave them in Comments section below and I’ll try to get to as many as possible.

paxlovid is a standard medication for COVID, although its efficacy for people who are already vaccinated, infected or both is unclear (at least to me). Is there research on any effect on long COVID risk for people who are vaccinated, perhaps previously infected and then get infected again?
