As the attending physician in the emergency department, my job during a serious trauma is weird. While everyone else is hustling around doing lots of stuff, I mostly have to just stand there and watch.

Except when I don’t.

I want to talk about a recent case where I got involved a little earlier than usual, what I saw, how I saw it, and why it could matter greatly in some situations.
