This administration has admitted that this RIF is political. Trump said that the layoffs will target "people that the Democrats want." The head of the OMB, Russell Vought, said nearly the ideal statement, that these RIF are linked to the shutdown to apply political pressure. Regardless, this administration has been laying off people for months without any thought about anything, except to layoff people and cause chaos. The end result is that people will suffer and die, albeit less obviously than the 42 who have already died at the direct hands of this administration, 21 people incarcerated by ICE and 21 at sea -- we use to believe that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty, not by this administration.
And let's forget about those people, including children, who are dying everyday since the USAID was effectively dismantled. It literally makes me sick to my stomach.

I would not have known about how the original RIF on Oct. 10 had gutted the entire staff of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, and I imagine that was true of many others. WIthout people like you to make us aware of these outrages, there would not be the public blow back that forces the administration to rescind the layoffs. Please keep up this vital work of creating awareness.
