RFK must go. He must be held responsible for all negative consequences of his recklessness.

Who will hold him responsible? Trump likes and needs him for his base of support. The GOP senators lack the spine to do anything. Unless forbid a bad outbreak happens under his watch he stays as long as he wants.

When Trump sees Kennedy as a liability, he will go. It's that simple

For MOST presidents I would agree Dr F But Trump is NOT most presidents! Trump doesn't really care about public health/research it's not on his radar or really the general public's radar either. Unfortunately, RFK Jr will do lots of damage before anything major happens. And look what Trump does he just reassigns people to being an ambassador or whatever. The MAHA/MAGA base would turn on Trump REAL fast if he let RFK Jr go. RFK Jr should have been EPA chief but then again Trump cares a lot about the environment & whales, etc....yea.

Look at Dr Fauci's book the chapter about Trump- "He loves me, he loves me not". I mean Trump is so totally unpredictable. He can scream profanities at Fauci the middle of the night then says "Everything's ok right Tony" the next before hanging up. To understand what Trump might do in that sense with RFK Jr who knows. My gut says it would be a huge leap to actually fire RFK Jr...BUT who has guessed anything right about Trump!!!

This is indeed tragic & the impact to public health is incalculable!

Again, I hope these experts find a “ home” to continue their work without the interference of politics & ignorance! In the meantime, we are all at risk!

They will. It's the American people who will suffer for the loss of their expertise.

For those of us no longer on Twitter- Thank You! for posting the text of Dr. Daskalakis’ full letter of resignation. This is one of the fiercest, clearest responses to the current situation at the CDC (really, HHS) that I have seen.

Wow.....no words!! This is indeed a watershed moment. What I feel will happen as well is at the NIH and FDA there will be many more to quit or be fired along with many more at the CDC. I don't see how it doesn't happen. When you see this. I have said I don't know how if you're an independent, fact-based scientist or health worker how you can ethically stay on at HHS under any of these sub agencies. I couldn't do it. But as Dr F said we're about to find out the ramifications of all this.

This is a huge loss. The highlights for me are in their own words:

Dr. Houry: "I am committed to protecting the public’s health, but the ongoing changes prevent me from continuing in my job as a leader of the agency." and "Recently, the overstating of risks and the rise of misinformation have cost lives, as demonstrated by the highest number of U.S. measles cases in 30 years and the violent attack on our agency."

Dr. Demetre Daskalakis: " I am not able to serve in this role any longer because of the ongoing weaponizing of public health"

And the loss of Dr. Monarez, a lone voice of reason at the top, now pushed out.
