Tonight will be a special one. It’s a concert night for me and my colleagues. As many of you know, in my “free time,” I conduct The Longwood Chorus, a 70-voice ensemble of Boston's healthcare and science community. (I went to graduate school for music prior to going into science and medicine full time, so this is not that random.)

Making music has always been a big part of my life—and getting to do it with colleagues is a true joy. In fact, as I wrote in 2021, conducting an ensemble like the Longwood Chorus is the culmination of a lifelong goal for me—and with testing and masking, we’ve kept it safe. I’ll return to this topic in the future—there’s a whole body of literature on music and medicine and I think about it a great deal. For now, I’ll just say that for me, complementing my lives in medicine, science, and public health with music, is a core part of who I am. Without all of these, I would not have balance.
So, if you’re in the Boston area and would like to attend our concert tonight in Brookline—live and in person—you can! We’ll be singing music by Arvo Pärt (Estonia), Francis Poulenc (France), and others. If you’re not local, you can watch it online at 7pm ET.
Tickets: They’re free with an optional $15 donation. To attend, please reserve a ticket here.

Lastly, I’ll mention that the past 3 years have been extraordinarily challenging times for arts organizations. Please support your local chorus (like ours, here!), orchestra, theater, dance ensemble, or art space, either with your attendance (when you feel safe) or with your financial support if you can. Without these resources, our communities would not be the same.
