A quick note on the road to Aspen
Q&As with Dr. Francis Collins and Dr. Deborah Birx, plus my session on the Aspen stage with Dr. Leana Wen and Helen Branswell.
Just a quick note from the road. I’m headed to Aspen Ideas Health for a couple of days. I'll be joining an incredible group of speakers.
Here's the planned schedule:
•Later today, I’ll be interviewing former director of the National Institutes of Health, and current scientific advisor to President Biden, Dr. Francis Collins. Dr. Collins led the Human Genome Project and is the author of a book about science and faith called The Language of God. I’m particularly interested in his famous friendship with the late-great atheist and intellectual powerhouse Christopher Hitchens. A 15-minute edited version of that will appear in the coming days on MedPage Today. The entire interview will be available to Inside Medicine Premium subscribers on our Facebook group. If you’d like to ask Dr. Collins a question or view that conversation in its entirety, now’s a great time to upgrade and join us!
•Then, tomorrow, I’ll be on the Aspen Ideas stage with Dr. Leana Wen (CNN, Washington Post), and Helen Branswell, a Senior writer for STAT News, and Pulitzer Prize Finalist for her Covid-19 coverage. We’ll be discussing how we can achieve safety and normalcy. That will be Friday at 12:30pm MT (2:30pm ET), and I believe it will stream live and later on the Aspen website.
•Later in the afternoon, I’ll be sitting down with Dr. Deborah Birx for another interview. Dr. Birx was the first White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator. Her book Silent Invasion tells the unbelievable inside story of the Trump Administration’s handling of the Covid-19 outbreak. Her account is compelling and maddening. While we owe Dr. Birx much, but many questions remain. A 15-minute edited version of that conversation will appear in the coming days on MedPage Today. The entire interview will also be available on the Premium-only Facebook group. Again, here’s that upgrade link. I’ll also try to ask questions posted on the Facebook group. So please join us and post your ideas.
•In addition, I’ll try to nab some big names in medicine in health while I’m in Aspen for quick interviews. If I can land any live interviews (which will be on the Facebook group) with advanced notice, I’ll let you know.
Since I know some of you are wondering…I’ll be masking at all indoor events, and I will not be dining inside. I sincerely hope I don’t catch Covid-19 while at Aspen Ideas Health. That would be some irony! That said, it could happen because they have a vaccine requirement for attending, but not a testing requirement. Fingers crossed.
Hope you can join me along the way.
Cheers,
Jeremy
